Is Jagex being unfair to F2P players?

Hello all! It's time for another article in our Herald (finally!). An author who wishes to be anonymous has written an article about one of the never-ending discussions players talk about in every RuneScape-related forum: Is Jagex being unfair to F2P players?. In response to the article currently in the newspaper 'the herald' i think that Jagex could at least give the entire Eastern portion of the map to players i.e. the haunted woods, all of the desert e.t.c, or they could allow us some more islands to visit as f2p players.

I might be only one to belieave this but I believe they give F2P to much, yes to much you heard you right. Jagex servers cost alot, and they dont pay, therefor I believe it should be givin much less, and F2P is bassicly a trail of P2P, you get a taste your hooked most people buy P2P. Its like a trail of a game, like you get a trail of Halo 3 with Crackdown.

Great article <He>, I agree with most of your views, F2P was just enough for me to get into RuneScape, I obtained P2P within ~10 minutes of completing Dragon Slayer (The final F2P quest I had left) - I was level 50 at the time.

To what Brian said. I don't think they give them too much. Paying for their servers is not a problem at all. They have many paying members, each giving 5 dollars a month. That is a very large amount of money.

If they lessened the experience the free players could have, they would get less paying members because people would not get as good a taste of what the game is all about.

Good article! F2p gets usually 1 major update every year, that is the way it has usually been.

View this from Jagex's perspective, why make the FREE version of the game better when you can keep making the PAY version better comparing to the free version? If the FREE version was great, not a single soul would pay. That is why the f2p version seems "left out". Most see the f2p version has a way to get used to the interfaces and playing style of RS, then when at a mid-level combat, they upgrade.

If you make the version that brings in money better then the one that doesn't pay, more people will pay. I really don't see why they don't get rid of the f2p version and make it all p2p.

This is a really interesting topic to debate.

I've been on both sides, mainly F2P, I was only a member for 3 months. I think it makes sense that they have a P2P version, and I do think they give too much to non-paying players. However, I find a number of things unfair. F2P gets virtually no space to roam. I'd rather less skills and more exploring spots, and places to visit and fish/mine etc. Being a member is really fun and stuff, but I find it's a little too easy to get rich. I mean, the whole bowstrings and stuff is so easy, you lose the meaning of hard earned work. When I was a member I stopped mining and fishing and such because I knew there was an easier way to make money. I wish the P2P version wasn't payed by month, but it was a one time payment of 30$, 40$ or whatever and you get the P2P permanently.

I'm currently a F2P monkey, and im working hard to get my stats up before i renew my membership. As im an ex member i think that as they pay for it they deserve the right to earn and skill faster

Jagex are unfair to P2Pers too. $5 US = $6.30 AUS and NOT $8.20. They keep talking about how scamming is wrong yet they scam all Australian members.

Isn't that just because of the money exchange rate?

In Canada here, membership is somewhere around 7-10$ depending on the payment way.

They arent scamming members, its all down to the exchange rate. for example:

$5US=£2.50GBP

So the UK players are paying the same amount as the US members, so im sorry but you cant compare currency in different countrys, even if it is both $.

some people want to buy p2p \but hen they tried [like me] i couldnt use bay by phone...hmmmmmm..interesting...i found out it is for MCI phone service users ONLY. or else i would've been a mem like 2 months ago but now i gotta w8 till i get back from vaction...and the number to call is not for usa users that wat the operator said.... so now i must w8 till i use my check card[well my moms]. and yeah f2p should be able to get a lil more stuff
